Yes, boat storage units cost money. It is our opinion, though, that the money spent is a great investment, and that is the point we will concentrate on in this article.  You spent thousands of dollars on that boat; don’t you think it deserves the best in storage?

We are Mouser Self Storage, serving South Fort Worth, Alvarado, and Johnson County with affordable self storage solutions. Call us at 682-800-3949 for more information about current pricing and availability.

Look at your boat as an investment.

The cost of a boat is hard to pin down simply because there are so many styles and sizes, plus the fact that cost varies wildly depending upon the geographic area.  Having said that, after some research, we are going to toss out a price of $15,000 for a small boat plus trailer as an average we can work with for this article.

To our way of thinking, and for about 90% of the people in this country, $15,000 is a sizeable sum and, as such, easily qualifies as a financial investment.  An investment in what, you might ask?  Let’s say you purchased a boat, not for commercial fishing, but simply for entertainment for you and your family. That right there is the investment factor: you are investing in the well-being and happiness of your family.  And that is an excellent investment and should be protected.

If you park your boat in your driveway, is it protected? If it sits in your backyard, is it protected? If it is parked in your garage, is it protected? Can vandals get to it? How about thieves?  How about Mother Nature?  Are those parking spots safe from vandals, thieves, and the weather? If not, you need boat storage units of some sort.

How boat storage units protect that investment.

The options for boat storage are numerous.  The most common are:

  1. Indoor Storage Indoor storage provides the best protection from weather conditions, pests, and vandalism.
  2. Outdoor Storage (Uncovered) Outdoor storage is a more affordable option for storing your boat in a dedicated space, typically within a marina or a storage facility’s lot.
  3.  Covered Outdoor Storage.
  4. Dry Stack Storage.
  5. Wet Slip Storage (Marina Slip).

The cost varies wildly and is again dependent upon the types and the area, but we can toss out a $150-$500 per month figure just for a talking point.  The question then is this: can you afford $150-$500 per month for a “parking space” for your $15,000 investment?

Pay now or pay later.

If your boat is stolen, and you have insurance, there may be no replacement expense for you, but there is certainly an inconvenience factor to consider. If you do not have insurance on that boat, the replacement cost is, obviously, $15,000.

Vandalized? Damaged by a storm? What is the replacement cost/repair cost then?

Listen, we know, money is tight. The economy does not smile down upon the Middle Class very often, so any mention of additional monthly payments is daunting and presents a strain on your budget.  We understand.  But we can also argue that any major investment which provides you with hours upon hours of enjoyment must be protected.  Otherwise, why make the investment in a boat in the first place? Why invest in a car? An RV?  A house?  If you are not going to protect them, why buy them? You need secure self storage!
